BASIC LECANOMANCY NUMBER TWO-LECANOMANCY WITH GEM(S) OR PEBBLE(S)
- Calm your mind, center yourself, and ask whatever Spirits or Higher Power(s) you normally appeal to for Their guidance and help with this divination session.
- Formulate a question in your mind. This should be more along the lines of an either/or, success/failure sort of question, since you’re looking for one of two possible answers in the oil—division and shattering, or self-preserving integration.
- Pour the oil into the center of the bowl/basin of water, and wait for it to form one solid blob of oil. Pour enough into the vessel that it forms one large pool of oil centered on the surface of the water. Do not use a clear oil; it should have at least a little color to it, in order to make the oil and its movements more visible.
- When the oil has formed into one large pool of oil, take up your gem or pebble and, holding it into the middle of the pool of oil, and observe the oil’s reaction. If the oil divides into smaller sections, it’s a negative sign. If the oil isn’t even disturbed and maintains its integration, then it’s a positive sign that the presumed disruptive element will prove not to be so.
- VARIATION: from the sounds of it, some lecanomancers may have dropped a handful of gems or pebbles into the water through the oil to draw meanings from how the gems or pebbles landed, as well as their effects on the oil. If using pebbles, I imagine you’ll be looking for a pattern. If you’re using a handful of gems, each with their own energy and symbolism, then your interpretation may need to be a combination of pattern upon landing, and the meaning of each gem.
