No discussion of chartomancy would be complete without discussing numerology. In the Harry Potter books, this subject was called ‘arithmancy’ which is actually a more accurate name for it, because simply put, numerology is divination by arithmetic. In numerology, all you need to construct a natal numerological chart on anybody is two pieces of information: their date of birth—day, month, and year—and their full given name at birth. Without these two bits of information, a numerological reading isn’t possible.
Numerology is a large subject. Not as large as astrology, which is a huge subject, but large enough that many books have been written on the subject. I will cover the basics of erecting a natal numerological chart in a series of entries, but I will post an annotated Recommended Books List for those interested in pursuing the subject further in a separate blog entry at the end of the series. Numerology can be a fascinating hobby; with just a person’s name and birthdate and a trusty numerological guide or two, you can tell a great deal about them, even a secret or two. But it’ll take more than one blog entry to do justice to the subject, so…
Very informative and helpful. I had known about the lifepath numbers, but I did not know if I was a 2 or an 11, because I didn’t know if there was a correct or better way of adding up the numbers. Thanks for clearing this aspect up! I’m happy to be an 11. 🙂
Yeah, that double-checking the math is an often-overlooked and important detail in numerology. As great a numerologist as the late Matthew Goodwin was, he never mentioned it that I can recall, and I’ve found it can make a difference.
