Before we get too much farther into the whole topic of psychomancy, or divination using psychic ability, I want to address the issue of psychic safety. There are disembodied spirits whose motives are not the best, whose sanity is questionable, and whose moral center is non-existent. Any time you use psychic ability to divine, you are laying your psychic centers open to input from the Otherworld as well as the outer world. Some malicious spirits see this state of mind an open invitation to come in and cause trouble. Psychomancy can put you at more risk of spirit harassment and spirit take-over than any other category of divination we’ve covered.
For that reason, I have created a ‘psychic safety guide’ in the PDF below. Page 1 features a psychic vulnerability questionnaire. Page 2 is a list psychic vulnerability symptoms to help you gauge your level of potential exposure to malign influence. Pages 3 and 4 feature definitions of various psychic terms to give you a better understanding of psychic phenomena and concepts. Pages 5 through 12 share tips and exercises designed to strengthen your psychic boundaries. This includes what to do in the case of psychic attack (more common) and suspected psychic possession (much less common, though the risk is never zero).
There are some final tips I would add, which don’t appear in this psychic safety guide. Number One, have an active, strong and functioning ‘bullshitometer.’ You know the feeling, that inner sense that activates when you know what you’re hearing is false and nonsense, that your disembodied source isn’t being straight with you. Number Two, make sure your inner sense of danger is in good working order, that sense that tells you you’re in a questionably safe situation. It’s what author Gavin de Becker calls ‘the gift of fear.’ My last tip reiterates a point from the psychic safety guide: be good at establishing strong, clear boundaries in your everyday life. If you have trouble establishing boundaries in your everyday life, if you routinely let others deplete your energy, then will find yourself more vulnerable to spiritual interference when you psychically divine.
