OBSERVATIONS

So over the course of researching ovomancy, here’s what I learned:

  • Ovomancy is one of the easiest forms of scrying to master. For sheer-readability, I think it’s right up there with embers divination. You may not ever be able to see images in a crystal ball or a scrying mirror, but an egg white will always take some form. Learning how to read it takes some practice, though.
  • Whole-egg and whole-egg-white are the two most-commonly practiced forms of egg divination today. In whole-egg divination, the yolk represents the person being read-for, the white represents what is going on in their environment.
  • A lacerated yolk renders the cast moot. If while practicing egg divination, the yolk is lacerated and starts leaking into the glass or bowl, you’ve got to stop it right there. The egg and egg-water must be discarded, and a fresh cast done.
  • The egg (or egg white) should sit in the glass, undisturbed, for a lengthy period. Opinions about the length of time vary. Some say it’s checkable after six hours, others seven, still others say it’s best to let it sit for ten to twelve hours before interpreting it.
  • It’s the egg white which is read, not so much the yolk. The yolk just sits there, while the egg white forms all kinds of interesting images.
  • When reading the egg white of a whole egg, don’t miss the developing-embroyo ‘tail’ on the yolk. That’s the part positioned near the bottom of the yolk, and it sort of stands by itself. The embroyo ‘tail’ can often form a distinct image, and given that it’s coming directly from the yolk, I take it to mean something which is coming into being in my life.
  • Egg divination is best for specific questions about an individual, whether it’s a person, organization, or country. But if you get good at egg divination, you can learn things about the subject that you might not be able to learn by any other divination method. For example, I saw an ovomancer on YouTube read details about Donald Trump’s health to a degree I’d never seen a card deck do. When reading about a Head of State, that sort of thing can be important.
  • The egg (or egg white) should be at room temperature when you drop it into the water. Opinions vary regarding the proper temperature of the water, but for maximum-flexibility in the formation of images, a room-temperature egg is essential.

I decided to experiment with water temperatures.
