The Symbols Approach to Stone Divination
One variation on this approach to stone divination uses twelve stones which represent Love, Magic, Fortune, Home, Life, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Sun, and Moon.
A second variation on this approach uses thirteen stones. Seven representing the Solar System–the Sun, the Moon, Saturn, Venus, Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, plus six representing Earth, Air, Fire, Water, Spirit, and Universe.
A third variation on this approach employs sixteen stones. Six personal stones, which represent Life, Luck, Love, Commitment, Magic and Place. Ten planet stones, which represent the Sun, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
If you go the symbols route, I recommend getting stones of a fairly-uniform size and color. You want stones of close to the same size and shape, so you can’t tell which stones you’re grabbing when casting. Paint, label, or engrave your set of stones with the recommended symbols which appear in parentheses:
1. Air-wishes, hopes, dreams, and inspiration (air symbol)
2. Commitment-where you are asked to make or maintain an alliance (interlocking circles)
3. Earth-security of home, family, and friends; where grounding is needed (Earth symbol)
4. Fire-passion, willpower, outside influences (flame)
5. Jupiter-money, prosperity, abundance, valuables, generosity, justice (Jupiter symbol)
6. Life-what the main focus of your energies are, or should be, at the moment (Ankh)
7. Love-this is all kinds of love, from romantic to affectional, to universal (heart)
8. Luck/Fortune-where you may expect an unanticipated benefit or gift (clover)
9. Magic-otherworldliness; where you can apply magic, or expect it (five-pointed star)
10. Mars-action, courage, conflict, battles, defensiveness (Mars symbol)
11. Mercury-intelligence, communication, self-improvement, overcoming bad habits (Mercury symbol)
12. Neptune-dreams, fantasies, illusions, the sea, a ‘dissolving’ kind of change (trident)
13. Place-where you need to be, or feel at home, in the situation (house)
14. Pluto– the darker impulses of the human spirit, revolution, societal change (Pluto symbol
15. Saturn-the teacher of hard lessons, longevity, protection, purification (Saturn Symbol)
