CONCLUSION

As for what sort of questions may be put to it, my best advice is, whatever the subject matter of your questions is, make them very-specific questions. It’ll help if the symbols have limited relevance to your question, so you can more-easily identify the most-applicable meaning. Several of the symbols have international meanings, so the alethiometer chart can be used for geo-political questions, but it lends itself well to personal questions too.

The concept of the alethiometer is an intriguing one, and it’s a chart-format I may return to at some point in the future with my own variation of it. Maybe someday, an actual real alethiometer can be constructed, one that people can pull out like a pocket-watch or a compass and consult with some nameless, formless entity whenever they choose. But in the meantime, this chart will have to suffice. And if someone ever does create a real, working alethiometer, you’ll already be well-versed in its use! I hope it brings you many meaningful, helpful and useful messages.

EXERCISES

  1. Ask the alethiometer chart an open-ended question, such as ‘what sage piece of advice do I most need to hear for my life right now?’ or ‘what will prove to be the most significant event in the week ahead?’ or ‘what message do you have for me right now?’ Note the answer you receive, and how you interpreted it.
  2. Ask the alethiometer chart a specific question, such as ‘which team is going to win the game?’ ‘who will get the job I interviewed-for?’ ‘what’s going to happen at the school board meeting next Wednesday? ‘what is (fill in the blank) doing when I’m not around?’ or ‘what is (fill in the blank) telling people about me?’ Note the answer you receive, and how you interpreted it.
  3. As the alethiometer chart a large-scale question, such as ‘where in the world is the next problem-spot going to erupt?’ or ‘what sort of solution will the world come up with to address the climate crisis?’ or ‘what is the nature of the next world-wide fad?’ Note the answer you receive and how you interpreted it.
  4. Compare and contrast the three answers you received. How were they the same? How did they differ? Given the nature of this divination tool, in what circumstances would you use it? For example, is it the sort of divination tool you would also use as a Fun Party Game, or no?
