THE ALETHIOMETER GRYOMANCY CHART-VERSION TWO
This second PDF is a version of the alethiometer which consists only of a ring of symbols I borrowed from online. This alethiometer chart is deliberately-simpler in design, so it can be cut out and used on a small roulette wheel (see Roulette Wheel Divination lesson for more details, and the next page for an image). Also, it’s smaller than the previous one, and it doesn’t have the distracting center design the other one does. This PDF includes instructions on how to use the alethiometer chart, an alethiometer interpretation form, and my extended commentary on the many possible meanings these thirty-six symbols can hold:
Pullman’s assigned meanings to these symbols seem largely based on a western and Christian worldview. Not surprising, given the world in which his characters function. But each symbol spoke a paragraph of meaning to me beyond the stated ones. So I decided to have at it, free-associating with each symbol and committing it to print. You can use my ‘glossary’ of meanings if you like, or just go with your own intuition, which is why the first PDF has just a straight-forward listing of the three traditional meanings for each symbol.
