HOW TO USE
First print out the PDF below:
I’ve tried to respect the original nineteenth-century phrasing where possible, but sometimes modern-day exasperation would overtake me and I’d revise the punctuation or phrasing in order to make the meaning clearer. I’ve included an observations page, which you’ll need for the exercises. As you know, when it comes to divination, I’m a big believer in the empirical method. The truest way to ascertain the value of a particular divination tool or method is to try it out for yourself. Feel free to print-out multiple copies of the third page; you’ll need at least four copies of same for the exercises below.
Next, you’ll need to find a good almanac, ephemeris or website which will give you the exact day of the moon’s age for just about any day you want to establish. Below are a few I’ve tracked down:
www.moongiant.com. This website will give you the moon’s age down to the second decimal point, so we’re talking really exact. To find moon phase and age of the moon, click on the link titled ‘Born on a Full Moon?’ and follow the instructions.
www.moonpage.com. This website’s moon-phase-finder also has a down-to-the-minute exactness, but it appears this finder will default to whatever the local time was in your area, so someone born somewhere else might be a little off from what it’s telling you about that person’s moon phase.
www.stardate.org. This website will come up with the moon phase calendar for any month and year you care to name, but it’s more labor-intensive that the previous two. It shows the actual calendar for that month, with a picture of the specific moon phase in the square for each day of the month. You’ll have to count the moon’s age yourself, using the pictures. If the birthdate of the person whose moon-age you’re seeking is early-enough in the month, you may have to look-up the previous month’s moon phase calendar in order to get an accurate count.
www.yourmoonphase.com. This website will tell you both the phase and the date of the moon’s age. One nice feature about this website is, it will also give you a bit of a personality run-down for the person whose age-of-the-moon you’re seeking. It can be interesting to compare and contrast it with the fortune that Grand Orient prognosticates for that day of the moon’s age. BUT—this website mainly exists to sell you their line of moon-phase jewelry, glassware, framed pictures, etc. and you’ll probably get pop-ups regarding same. If you don’t mind the commercial aspect of this website—and hey, maybe you’ll think their merchandise would make a good gift for somebody—this is a website you may want to consult.
When doing the exercises, I encourage you to try all four websites above. You may find there’s one of them you prefer over the others. With that I’ll cut you loose to try this on people you know, and may it yield interesting insights!
