THE COILED SERPENT
This is a tablet of fate with a very distinct and slightly-ominous purpose. The Coiled Serpent is designed to alert and inform the user of upcoming trouble or misfortune and how to deal with it. It is supposed to be able to accurately predict the outcome of the machinations of enemies, expose evil-doings, and assist people afflicted with serious problems. The image of a coiled serpent was chosen for this tablet because, having long been considered a symbol of evil in certain cultures, the serpent was considered up to the task of helping to ward off the effects of trouble in an ‘evil-recognizes-its-own’ sort of way.
It’s not a tablet of fate to be employed lightly. The rules specify it should not be consulted any more frequently than once every 30 days, and you aren’t supposed to use it again until the previous trouble it forecast for you has manifested. The superstition is, that if you consult this chart within the 30-day period, the evil effects of the serpent will be rained down upon your head. I haven’t personally tested this contention, but why tempt fate?
