Bone-Casting’s minimally-structured, organic way of being allows for more natural, free-flowing interpretations than cartomancy, with its rigid, this-card-means-this, this-position-in-the-layout-means-that way of conveying information. One of the most ancient ways of divining, it can yield readings of great nuance, sophistication and relevance.

EXERCISES

1. Using the Past/Present/Future chart (see the links to the casting fields above), cast the bones. Just ask it something general, like, ‘give me an overview of my life right now’ or ‘give me an overview of my current concern’. What does it seem to be telling you?
2. Using the three-part, Animal/Plant/Mineral chart (see link above), do three separate readings, past, present, and future, on a matter of concern to you. What did it tell you? Did the three readings flow together to form a coherent whole for you, or one of the readings not seem to tie in with the other two?
3. If you can find a willing subject, do a reading for someone else, using either casting field of your choosing. Is it easier to read for someone else, using this divination method, or was there no difference in ease or difficulty from reading for yourself? Did they find the reading helpful?
4. Of the two casting charts you used with this divination tool, which did you prefer? Were there any other casting fields you would like to try—or devise—for this divination tool?

EXTRA CREDIT:

Cast the bones again, using one of the other casting charts I included in the links above. Was it effective? How did it change the message you were getting from the bones? Did you prefer it to the two other casting fields mentioned above, or was there no difference?
