Interpreting the Sabian Symbols
The Sabian Symbols demand contemplation on the inquirer’s part, for the imagery contained in them can be read in a variety of ways, and on multiple levels. With some of them, the meaning is crystal clear; with others the meaning is obscure, and the inquirer will have to ask themselves what the image suggests to them. ‘Free-associating’ is a useful approach with these. Say for example, you’re a young person, romantically-interested in a certain boy, and you want to know if he feels the same way, or if it is possible to persuade him to be similarly-interested in you! (Recommendation: ask these as two separate questions). You spin the spinner several times, while asking your question, and it lands on Taurus 8: A sleigh without snow. Whatever does that mean?
Potentially, a whole host of things. Well, what can we say about a sleigh without snow? A sleigh is a fast, fun, sporty vehicle to experience–in winter, when it’s running on snow, and when it’s hitched to a good horse. Otherwise, it’s useless. This could mean you’re not going to get anywhere with this person, because the environmental conditions just aren’t right; they aren’t seeing you in your best light. Or they may have you categorized as ‘not a romantic prospect.’ Or they may see you as unappealing/useless as a sleigh without snow. Or–and this is an outside-possibility, but its possible–this could be a hint to be taken literally–next winter, invite this person on a sleigh ride, and see what develops! Of course, this interpretation of Taurus 8 assumes you have access to a sleigh. This is both the strength and the weakness of the Sabian Symbols–the imagery can be taken so many different ways, it takes a good sense of intuition to determine what the real answer is here.
