The first rule about using these squares is timing. The first square, the Action Square, may be consulted any time you are contemplating a course of action. The latter two squares, the Love Square and the Success & Fortune Square, should not be consulted more than once a month by the same person. The second rule is, concentrate on your question before using the square. The third rule is, pray for guidance before using the square. Muslims employing the Magic Squares traditionally recite certain verses from the Qu’ran before using these squares. (For those with a copy of the Qu’ran on hand and want to be authentic about this, you are required to repeat, three times, the opening chapter of the Qu’ran, and the 59th verse of the Soorat elAn’am).
You may precede your consultation of these squares with a prayer or invocation to your Deity of choice or a personal ritual if you wish, but the key point is to focus your attention on your question as well. Then, with your eyes closed, or simply not looking at the board, select one of the small, lettered squares at random with a pin, pen, pencil, or some other pointer, such as your finger. On a piece of paper, write down the letter you just selected. For the Love Square and the Success & Fortune Square, you will then count to every eighth letter after that first letter, and write those succeeding letters down. For the Action Square, you will be counting and writing down every fifth letter after the first one. When you have reached the bottom of the square, circle around up to the upper-left corner of top row without interrupting your counting. When writing down the first letter you land on at the top of the square, underline it. This will be important in deciphering the answer. Keep counting and writing down every eighth (or fifth) letter in the magic square until you come to the last letter, which appears eight(or five) squares before the letter where you first started. Starting from the underlined letter, re-write all the letters your pointer selected. The result is your answer.
