Fountain scrying. An outdoor fountain is a good scrying location, but it presents certain challenges. You’re going to be scrying images in the bubbles and foam and listening for clairaudient messages in falling water’s noise. Images which form in fountain scrying dissolve and re-form quite rapidly, so you’ll have to read quickly.  Fountain scrying is best attempted by those who are quite adept at dropping into a receptive mindset and scrying quickly.

Let your eyes go out of focus, gaze into the middle distance and let the images form, dissolve and re-form. Fountains that change color at night can also be excellent for scrying, as light-color can be drawn into the interpretation of the images you’re seeing in the bubbles and foam.

Waterfall Scrying. Waterfall scrying has the potential to produce both images and clairaudient messages. Don’t worry if at first you only see sparkling and mists. You may get an impression of what you think you saw, but that will be just the clairvoyant eye seeing before your physical eye does. With additional practice and time, you will get used to processing psychic impressions via water scrying.  It’s recommended you try scrying from three positions: a higher point, such as a bridge overlooking it, then from part of the way up, then from the base of the waterfall. Try scrying from each level, looking for images and listening for clairaudient messages, then bring it all together afterwards.

If you can safely do so, and the waterfall is structured for this, try to get behind the waterfall, so you are looking out through it. The ancient Druids used to waterfall-scry this way.

River/Stream/Creek Scrying. Try to find a relatively calm stretch of the flowing water. In addition to being a clearer surface for scrying, the stream may bring floating objects by your line of sight which can be significant in the message. Eddys and swirls in the water may also form images which are psychically relevant. Rapids may work out better for you for scrying if clairvoyance isn’t your strong suit. The sound of the water can lend itself well to clairaudience, and while focusing on the water, lulled by the noise, there’s also the chance a sudden intuition may drop into your head if you’re more the clairsentient type.

It’s the same PDF as the lesson on indoor water scrying, but I’m rerunning it below, because it contains information related to this lesson as well:

CONCLUSION

Water scrying is one of those divination methods which could be considered Artomancy as much as Psychomancy. Given that it calls on one’s intuitive abilities, I decided it belonged in the latter category. Mastering water scrying (indeed all scrying) requires the ability to put the thinking brain in ‘Park’ and the receptive, intuiting brain in ‘Drive’ to use automotive terms. But once you get proficient at it, you can scry anywhere you find an open water source, a handy ability to have when you don’t have an oracle deck on hand.

EXERCISES

  1. Trying scrying calm water, such as a lake or pond
  2. Try scrying moving water, such as a stream, river, waterfall, or sea
  3. Try scrying a fountain
  4. Briefly describe your experiences scrying with each water source.
  5. How did each water source differ? Or did they all function same way for you?
  6. Was there any one water source which worked best for you?
  7. Would you use this divination method again?
