CONCLUSION

Like I said earlier, what the Discs of Fate lacks in sophistication, it can make up for in the breadth of subjects you can create for it. For example, you could also design a discs-of-fate which answers yes/no/maybe questions, and every point in-between those, a la ‘An Universal Oracle’. You could design a discs-of-fate which gives you general financial advice, or answers for education, career, hobbies, sports, holidays, spirituality, death, or government. The possibilities are limited only by your imagination. The Discs of Fate is fundamentally a Wheel of Fortune small-enough to carry in a backpack, briefcase, or large-enough purse, so any subject for which you want a quick answer on-the-go is fertile material for this divination tool.

The Discs of Fate was likely intended only as an amusement, an item of temporary interest, or perhaps just something to fill-out the content of the book from which it came. Most such manipulable-disc divination tools of a hundred-plus years ago were probably designed with a light-hearted attitude about their accuracy. Problem is, even a simple fortune-telling tool designed for amusement can turn out to render a true answer, so use this Discs of Fate with that possibility in mind.

EXERCISES

Print, cut out, and assemble the Discs of Fate. Then use it to answer the following questions:

  1. Ask the Discs of Fate a question regarding yourself, either about love, marriage or general fortune. Make a note of the answer you receive, then come back to the notes later. In retrospect, how accurate (or not) was the answer you received?
  2. Ask the Discs of Fate a question regarding someone you know well, either about love, marriage or general fortune. Make a note of the answer you receive. In retrospect, how accurate (or not) was the answer you received?
  3. Now that you have a little experience with this divination tool and its degree of accuracy (or not), in what circumstances would you use the Discs of Fate? Did the accuracy of the answers you received depend on which subject area you asked-about?
  4. EXTRA CREDIT: Create a set of ten possible answers for some other category of inquiry.
