THE SEVENTEEN MAGIC TABLETS

The yes-and-no stones also confirmed the diagrams on each magic tablet are essentially the same images which that unknown, long-ago printer created, and though the answer keys may have undergone a little editorial revision here and there over the centuries, the answers are fundamentally the same. What I thought I’d do is introduce you to each one, in the order they were first listed in the book. I have done a separate PDF for each tablet, in case you want to print out some, but not all of these tablets.

FIRST TABLET: THE TABLET OF THE SUN

The Tablet of the Sun is primarily concerned with matters of wealth and material gain, specifically what are the chances of said wealth or material gain landing in the inquirer’s lap from out of the blue, or losing it. This tablet permits three tries in which to obtain an answer, and if in three tries you don’t obtain an answer, you have to wait twenty-four hours before trying again. If those three tries fail, it’s another 42 days before you may consult it again.

SECOND TABLET: THE TABLET OF THE LUCKY CLOVERS

The Tablet of the Lucky Clovers is designed to answer the question, ‘is there any particular bit of good luck coming to me in the near future, and if so, what is it?’ Given that it must be a direct-hit or a very-close-miss with the pointer in order for a valid fortune to drawn from this chart, it represents a bit more of a challenge than most of the magic tablets, as elusive as luck itself. This is the first of the three tablets whose design is fundamentally horizontal in orientation.

THIRD TABLET: THE TABLET OF THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE

No where near as large a production as Felix Fontaine’s ‘Golden Wheel Fortune teller, this very basic tablet just answers, in a very general manner, the question, ‘do I have any particularly-notable good luck or bad luck coming to me in the near-future?’ It’s a decent, all-purpose tablet to consult if you just generally want to know what’s coming for you in the near future.

FOURTH TABLET: TABLET OF THE TREE OF LIFE

This tablet answers the question of ‘what is coming up health-wise, in the near-future?’ This appears to be one of those tablets where, if it is someone else’s health you are concerned about, it can be used to ask about their health, just as well as your own.
