When constructing a paper fortune teller from scratch, I think it helps to have a working knowledge of numerology, particularly the special energies of numbers or the special energies of letters, if you’re using the alphabet. There are a number of good books on numerology, but the best books for the energies of the alphabet, that I have found, are:

Godwin, Matthew. Numerology: the Complete Guide. Vol. 1. North Hollywood, California: Newcastle Publishing, Inc.1981, pp. 356-379.
Watts, Norma. The Art of Nameology: Uncovering the Meaning Behind a Name. Belgium, Wisconsin: Champion Press, LTD. 2006

Just to get you started, I have included the instructions below on how to construct a paper fortune teller. Let your imagination run wild! One of the great strengths of the paper fortune teller is how it allows for creativity, both in its appearance and its answers. You can color it, collage it or paint it. I have followed the instructions with a couple of paper fortune tellers I’ve designed, if you just want to print one out and start using it immediately. Have fun! Just be thoughtful about the ‘fortunes’ you write in the triangles; you don’t want to create hurt feelings and make an enemy–do you?
