Person holding ring in palm

PROCEDURE

  • Resolve from the start you’re going to receive impressions from the object. Pick it up and hold it in whatever way feels most comfortable to you; right hand, left hand, or even your forehead or midsection if those are your best locations for physically sensing things.
  • Describe the object next. This is important, because it sends a message to your subconscious mind that you’re ready to start receiving impressions from the object.
  • Give your general impression(s)at first. What did you first sense when holding the object? Sometimes that’ll be the most important thing you’ll pick up from it.
  • Note any physical or emotional sensations while holding it. Do you feel comfortable or uncomfortable holding it? What is the predominate emotion you’re sensing? Do you feel any physical pain in the body while holding it?
  • Give your impressions as they come to you, no matter how trivial or nonsensical they may seem. Don’t critique your impressions as you’re receiving them, that can shut down the flow of information.
  • Trust what comes to you and hold to it. The owner may not be able to verify something you’ve picked up on and may offer an alternative explanation. Don’t accept this if it doesn’t agree with what you’re feeling. Stretching to make an explanation fit what you’re picking up is not the way to develop psychometry because then you’re not honing your psychic talent appropriately.
  • Future events. It’s also possible to pick up on events in the owner’s future, so be careful with this. If the future event is a seemingly negative experience, remind them the future is not carved in stone and they may yet have options to avert it.

In the PDF below, there is an observations sheet for you to record your impressions. There is also space for follow-up notes. I’ve designed a separate observations sheet for Exercise 2 below if you’re going to be trying to ‘read’ objects in a thrift store. You’re encouraged to keep a record of your psychometric attempts because it will show your progress, and also you may later find out something which explains more about your perceptions from a seemingly unremarkable object.

EXERCISES

  1. The most readily available way of practicing psychometry is by trying to ‘read’ an object in your home which was owned by someone else. This is not without risk. The object may have picked up on some of your energy as well. What you know about the previous owner or think you know may color your perception of them. Try to focus your energy and attention on the origins of the object and its previous owner or owners. Make it a point to shut-out your own energy from the object for the duration of the exercise and focus on the other owners. The good thing about this is you can double-check with other family members for background concerning the object.
  2. Another way of practicing psychometry is going to a secondhand shop and surreptitiously laying your hands on an item, closing your eyes and seeing what feelings thoughts or images come to mind. Indeed this is a good idea anyway if it’s an item you’re thinking about buying and taking home with you. You don’t want to purchase something with bad vibes on it. The downside of this sort of exercise is you can’t check with a previous owner or their family to verify if the impressions you’re picking up are true, but it’s a good opportunity to practice the technique because you have so much raw material to work with.
  3. A third way of practicing psychometry is simply gathering a group of likeminded people together, exchanging personal possessions and reading each other’s items. This takes more planning, but the good thing is the owner is there to immediately confirm or deny what you’re detecting.
