The first psychomancy lesson is coming, I promise. But every year when Halloween approaches, I like to create a new Halloween-themed divination tool. The idea for this year’s came from Callia Underhill’s book, A Witch’s Book of Divination. Her version was called ‘the House of the Goddess’ and was based on the days of the lunar month. I call mine ‘Halloween House’ and is based on mostly Halloween-related images.
This form of divination could be termed box divination, which is a multipart diagram placed at the bottom of a closable box, with each part of the diagram assigned a specific meaning. A divining stone or casting item is placed in the box, the box is closed, then while asking the question, you pick up the box and shake it up several times (I like to swizzle it around nine times in a clockwise direction). Depending on the box used, you may have to hold the lid closed while shaking. Placing the box very carefully back down on a flat surface, you open the lid and look to see where the stone (or casting item) landed. The square of the multipart diagram in which it landed is the answer to your question. The benefit of box divination is you’ll get an answer every time, since there is little to no empty space where the stone can land.
