NAPOLEON’S BOOK OF FATE
The full version of Napoleon’s Book of Fate contains 32 binary symbols and 32 possible questions the inquirer may put to the oracle. The answers are relatively-short, pithy, and of the type of no-nonsense, get-to-the-point spirit which would appeal to a military mind like Napoleon’s. These answers don’t flatter the inquirer; they tell you the plain, unvarnished truth in a terse fashion. This oracle doesn’t care about your feelings, it just tells you its truth, and leaves you to deal with it. It reliably won’t tell you what you want to hear. Some of the questions in Napoleon’s Book of Fate you can ask repeatedly. Others, you may only want to ask once or twice in a lifetime.
INSTRUCTIONS
The way this oracle is supposed to be done is, first choose a question you want to have answered. Then, either in the sand or dirt with a stick, or on paper with a pen or pencil, draw five rows with a random number of dots in each row. Don’t think about it, don’t count the dots as your draw them, just do it.
When you have written your five rows of dots, you start counting the number of dots in each row, starting with the top row and working your way down. If there are an odd number of dots in a row, that translates as one dot. If there are an even number of dots in a row, that translates as two dots. When you have created your five-level binary symbol, you take that symbol to the answer table, find the number of your question along the side of the page, then find the symbol you created along the top of the page. Trace your fingers down and across until you arrive at the letter (either Western alphabet or Greek) which stands at the intersection of those two lines. Flip to the page with that letter as the heading at the top of the page. Then find the symbol you drew along the left-hand margin of the page. The sentence to the right of it is your answer.
