All that being said, Fontaine’s take on the Piquet/Euchre deck and how to read it is an approach you might want to experiment-with. May Fontaine’s input on Euchre/Piquet card reading strengthen and deepen your own abilities reading in this format.

EXERCISES

  1. Try a card reading, your choice of subject, using only Fontaine’s meanings for the cards and his prescribed lay-out. Did the result seem accurate and relevant to the question asked? How did Fontaine’s one-long-continuous-story format work out for you?
  2. Take another look at your spread, and bring Agnes Miall’s assigned meanings for the cards into the mix. Were her assigned card meanings more applicable to the question than his, or did hers simply add more information to the mix?
  3. Try one of Agnes Miall’s two card lay-outs (see the ‘Piquet Divination’ lesson, posted in December 2020), your choice of question, and after using her card-meanings, bring Fontaine’s assigned card meanings into the mix. Did Fontaine’s interpretations of the cards’ meanings augment or contradict Miall’s assigned meanings?
  4. Now that you’ve done two spreads, one from Fontaine, another from Miall, using both Fontaine and Miall’s descriptions of the cards, do you find you prefer one’s approach over the other’s, or were both sources useful in your readings?
  5. Extra Credit: Take another look at the photograph of Fontaine’s Grand Tableau at the beginning of this lesson and try interpreting it. Without knowing the question, what story does it tell you?
