WHAT SORT OF QUESTIONS MAY I ASK?

This divination method lends itself well to future-oriented questions, because it’s an omen-taking method. Questions like:

  • What is the future of this person/project/company/family/country for the next week/month/year/three years?
  • I am contemplating (fill in the blank with the sort of action you thinking about taking); what will be the result if I do this?
  • So-and-so is studying/working abroad; will he/she come home again, or are they there to stay?
  • I’m worried about my brother; will he be okay?
  • Am I going to be getting married in the next year/three years/five years?
  • Is my country soon going to be a war with anyone, and if so, will it result in victory or defeat?
  • Will I have a successful career in (fill in the blank)?
  • Will I be traveling soon?
  • I haven’t heard from (fill in the blank) in the longest time–are they well?
  • Or, if you dare go there: (Fill in the blank) is missing; will they be found alive or dead?

THE ORNITHOMANCY RITUAL-VERSION TWO

If you live in a house or apartment with a balcony or window which overlooks a lawn, a garden, a vacant lot, or a park, you don’t even have to leave home! Just pull up a chair, clear your mind, inscribe you divining field (indeed, you could make everything in the window frame your divining field) and go through the ritual prayer above. You could ask more than one question. Simply thank them for their answers to your first question, then say aloud, ‘I would like to ask about (fill in the blank). Please send me an omen within the next half-hour.’ This could be an interesting and enlightening way to pass an empty afternoon, and you could get a whole string of omens in response to your questions.

THE ORNITHOMANCY RITUAL-VERSION THREE

You live or work in a big city and not near any open stretches of ground, or you’re going to be busy that day and don’t have time to go to a local park, or sit in your front window for any stretch of time. You do have a smart phone, a tablet or a computer, though. Simply set an intention at the beginning of the day:

Sky God, I want to know the future of (fill in the blank). I ask You to please send me a sign, using Your messengers the birds, through my phone/tablet/work or home computer sometime today. Thank You.

Then go about your day. If the sky god you invoked is willing to answer, then at some point during the day, a picture of a bird, seemingly unbidden, will appear on your device. Perhaps it will appear in a side-line ad. Someone may forward it to you in an e-mail. You may actually receive your response from the deity on Twitter! This is a very-untraditional approach and it narrows the scope of interpretation, but it’s something. If by bedtime you don’t see an electronic version of a bird, then that’s your answer.
