As always, I recommend printing these out on a good, heavy-weight paper or card-stock, like 65-lb, 80-lb, or 100-lb paper (available at office-supply stores), then spraying them with a couple coats of acrylic sealer before cutting them out and assembling them. The acrylic sealer is important, because otherwise, it’ll become a smudgy-mess as you cut out the shape and assemble it.
If you can, I recommend printing each dodecahedron out on different-colored card-stock. I have the name of each dodecahedron somewhere on the dodecahedron in tiny print, but with different-colored paper, you can tell them apart at a glance. For example, the Dodecahedron of Desire, I print out in red, the Dodecahdrons of Decisions and Designs, I print out in white. The Dodecahedron of Destiny (Long-Term), I print out in green, while the Dodecahedron of Destiny (Short-Term) I print out in yellow. But these are just suggestions (and what I had on-hand).
HOW TO CONSULT THE DODECAHEDRONS OF FATE
I say something like the following: “Gods, Ancestors, Nature Spirits, Spirit Guides, my own Higher Self, I seek an answer to the question of what I may expect for the coming week.” I’m tossing the dodecahedron from one hand to the other while I’m asking my question, then toss the dodecahedron away from me, either onto a table or the floor. The facet of the polyhedron which is face-up is the answer. I don’t spend a lot of time on this process; I have the feeling that the quicker you do it, the better it’ll work, because you’re not focusing on one specific answer on the polyhedron’s surface you’d like to see turn face-up.
Here are some sample questions you can ask of these dodecahedrons:
I’m thinking about (fill in the blank with the action you’re contemplating). Should I go ahead with my plans?
I desire (fill in the blank with the person or object of your desire). Will I achieve my desire?
What is the most important event in the week ahead for me?
Where will I be in one/three/five/ten years?
Is there anybody in my life who has plans for me, either good or bad? And if so, which is it?
This is a divination tool I file under the category of ‘Simpleomancy’ because it’s another one of those ‘quick-and-dirty’ divination methods which doesn’t involve keeping a whole body of knowledge in your head, erecting a chart, or trying to discern meaning in the seemingly-indecipherable; you only need the divination tool itself. This is a spur-of-the-moment divination tool you can have on a shelf, ready to ask it a question. This is another one of those divination tools you can print-out and store flat, having it available for assembly and use. You can then tear it up and discard it after use, if you’re so-inclined.
It might also be fun to assemble all these and use them casually with a group of friends. Or, have a set of them on a table at a Halloween party, and invite the guests to give it a toss (See optional table-top sign below). Sometimes answers about the future we ask for and receive in light-hearted jest manifest themselves in all seriousness later!
I made the table sign two-sided, so you can decide if you want to go with Halloween-creepy or generic. “The Gods may throw the dice..” sang ABBA once. Now you can too. I hope you have fun with these and find them useful!
