If you’ve been going through the other categories of Divination Lessons, Simpleomancy, Chartomacy, Symbolomancy, and Artomancy, you’ll have seen that most forms of divination do not require psychic ability at all, although intuition can sometimes help. I hope you’ve seen by now that you could hang out a shingle and practice as a diviner without having any psychic ability to speak of. All it requires is knowledge, the proper materials, trust in the process, and the ability to achieve a neutral mindset in order to give an impartial reading to someone.

Your intuitive muscle should be fairly-well developed by now, if you’ve been going through the categories in the order I laid out. Intuition is important for the development of psychic talents, because it’s needed for the divination methods and tools discussed in this category.  This is why I left Psychomancy for last. This is the section where I’m finally forced to agree with Professor Trelawney in Harry Potter that ‘if you don’t have the natural gift, there is very little I can teach you.’ The reality is, when most people think ‘diviner’ they expect to visit one with some form of psychic ability, whether that’s a medium, a clairvoyant, or someone who can successfully scry with a crystal ball.

So before we move on to the lessons in this section, we’re going to start with a few tests to gauge how ready you are for Psychomancy. Think of it like the 100-metre hurdles; you have to clear a few obstacles in order to determine if it’s worth participating in further efforts in the field. These tests come from Your Mind Over Matter by J. Maya Pilkington and The Diagram Group.
